Wildlife
Today, the traditional stone buildings have been converted into housing for the Countryside Classroom, but the woods, hedges, and meadows are as much a haven for wildlife as they have ever been. We are particularly proud that our management has ensured that healthy populations of a number of red-listed bird species are still to be found here.
There is also a wide range of mammals who make their homes on the farm. Among them are bats, otter, badgers and roe deer, amphibians, reptiles and insects. The farm and woodland walks will take you through all the differing habitats and give you an excellent chance of seeing some of the wildlife. (We are very keen for visitors to record their observations, which we then submit to ERCCIS, the Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly). Restoration of old ponds is planned and there is an ongoing programme of providing bird and bat boxes around the farm. We have assembled lists of plants, birds, mammals and are working on invertebrate lists. |
